Welcome to Kishwaukee Canoe, a canoe and kayak rental service for the Kishwaukee River in Illinois. Your adventure starts at Baumann Park in Cherry Valley and ends at Atwood Park & Prairie in New Milford. It is an eight and a half mile ride that is very enjoyable, as the "Kish" has a lot to offer!
The "Kish" is rated as a Class A river by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. This means it has a significant number of species of fish that are silt intolerant. It is very nice to be on a river with clean water. If you are a fishing enthusiast, you are apt to catch smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish, walleye and an occasional northern pike. You are invited to bring a pole if you would like. Catch and release is appreciated though!
The "Kish" has many opportunities to see a variety of wildlife along its shores and in its waters. You may see bald eagles, blue herons, otters, and soft shelled turtles during your adventure. If you especially enjoy watching the birds, this is the place to be. Of the 299 species of birds that regularly occur in Illinois, 262 can be found among its trees and along its shores.
There are some sandbars that you can land at to take a break during your trip. The Espenscheid Memorial Forest Preserve and the Kishwaukee River Forest Preserve are also a nice place to stop at to have a picnic or use their outhouse facilities. We can also launch you from these forest preserves if you want to do a shorter trip.
We are a friendly, family owned business with years of experience. We want you to have an amazing and memorable trip! The Kishwaukee River is definitely a river you will want to canoe or kayak. Get one on one with nature, it's where it's at! Come out and experience the Kishwaukee River today! You will not be disappointed!
