Welcome to KISHWAUKEE CANOE, a canoe rental service based out of ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS. The canoe trip we offer is on the KISHWAUKEE RIVER in ILLINOIS. Your adventure starts at BAUMANN PARK in CHERRY VALLEY, IL and ends at ATWOOD PARK in NEW MILFORD, IL. It is an 8 1/2 mile ride that is very enjoyable, as the "KISH" does have alot to offer.

For one thing the "KISH" is rated as a Class A river by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. This means it has a significant number of species of fish that are silt intolerant. It is very nice to be on a river with clean water. If you are a fishing enthusiast, you are apt to catch smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, catfish and bluegills. You are invited to bring a pole if you like. Catch and release is appreciated though !

The "KISH" has many opportunities to see various wildlife along it's shores and in it's waters. You may see white tailed deer, great blue herons, osprey, river otters, beavers, woodchucks, amphibians and reptiles during your adventure. If you especially enjoy watching the birds, this is the place to be. Of the 299 species of birds that regularly occur in Illinois, 262 can be found along and around it's shores. 

There are many forest preserves along the KISHWAUKEE RIVER that you can stop at to have a picnic or to take advantage of their facilities including:  ESPENCHEID MEMORIAL, BLACKHAWK SPRINGS, KISHWAUKEE RIVER FOREST PRESERVE and the KISHWAUKEE GORGE. Another good feature is that there are mile marker signs every 1/4 mile, making it easier to tell how far you have gone on the river.
